Center for Computational Genetics and Genomics

A new research center within the Department of Biology, the goal of the Center for Computational Genetics and Genomics is to foster research and education on the use of computing technologies for the study of scientific questions in genetics and genomics.

Genetics is the study of the transmission and expression of genetic information, and genomics is the study of these same processes as they are occur across the entire genome. At its core the field of genetics/genomics is highly conceptual and it is very often the case that research questions are accessible from a mathematical standpoint. And as mathematical models are increasingly being used to understand genetic/genomic data from the real world, the field has seen tremendous growth in computational research.
