My comparative biomechanics lab focuses on how animals move through their natural worlds. We are particularly interested in how animals run across yielding surfaces such as sand and how they use their feet to maximize locomotor ability. To address our research questions, we examine animal movement under a variety of conditions, and then apply bioinspired physical modeling, computational simulations, and robotics experimental approaches to gain a deeper understanding of the biological and physics phenomena at play.
