Research Interests

Dr. Svetlana Kotochigova’s primary research interests are in the quantum theory of atoms and molecules in the ultracold domain. This includes electronic structure theory, scattering dynamics and chemical reactivity of molecules as well as the study of quantum magnetism and quantum chaos in magnetic lanthanides. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society based on the citation “For insightful theoretical descriptions of the formation and control of ultracold molecules in optical trapping potentials”.  She has published over 90 peer-reviewed journal papers and is cited 7884 times with h-index 45.

Her most recent work includes research into

  1. Quantum science with hybrid magnetic lanthanide molecules for quantum simulations and precision measurements.
  2. Engineering of polyatomic molecules with optical cycling centers for quantum science applications.
  3. Modern aspects of roaming in non-adiabatic chemical reactions with cold and controlled radicals.
  4. New fundamental physics with heavy radioactive molecules.
