Interests
My research interests are in the areas of experimental and computational chemistry. This research provides a platform for collaborative research with undergraduates and inspires my teaching. Atmospheric chemistry is a focus of this research and energized species dominate atmospheric chemistry. My current focus is on Criegee intermediates which are highly energized intermediates formed following atmospheric ozonolysis of alkenes. We combine quantum chemical computations with machine learning to study the evolution of these reactive species and the production of key species such as the hydroxyl radical.
My methodological computational research focus is the development of state-of-the-art applications in statistical computing. This development has included Monte Carlo statistical simulations, machine learning applied to quantum molecular potential energy surfaces, and development of novel signal processing algorithms in the time-domain to enhance Fourier transformed signals.
