J. Schiller received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Murray Gerstenhaber. He has held positions as a physicist at the Naval Air Development Center, a mathematical consultant at Kettelle and Wagner, and a research associate professor of physiology and biophysics at Temple. He has published papers in the areas of Riemann surfaces, artificial intelligence, number theory, and mathematical biology, and has coauthored textbooks in college algebra, precalculus, calculus, finite mathematics, probability and statistics, and complex analysis. He was department chair from 1998 to 2004 and received the CST Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011.
