Who is eligible to compete in the 3MT?
​The competition is intended for graduate students who have made significant progress with their research work and can present this work to a general audience. If you are unsure, speak with your advisor or email us at cst.ga@temple.edu.

What is allowed on my 3MT slide?
One single static PowerPoint slide is permitted. No sound, video, or special effects (transitions, animations, movement, etc.) may be used.

Can I use palm cards or notes during my presentation?
Yes, palm cards and/or speech notes are acceptable, however this option may detract from the delivery of the 3MT and is not recommended.

Can I use a quote from a poem or a song?
Yes, quotes can be included from a poem or song if it is relevant to the presenter's thesis topic. Poetry and song lyrics are not permitted to be used to present the entire 3MT and their use should be very limited.

Is there a dress code?
There is no standardized dress requirement. Some participants have dressed formally in suits, others in jeans and t-shirts. Please wear whatever is comfortable for you. The only rule is NO COSTUMES.

Why are costumes and props not allowed?
We want you to be judged by the content of your research, not the content of your wardrobe. For this reason additional props (e.g. costumes, musical instruments, laboratory equipment) are not permitted. Laser pointers are allowed but not encouraged (your slide should be simple enough that you do not need to emphasize elements to the audience)

Is there a prize for winning?
Yes, there will be monetary prizes for the top presenters!

Can I participate in the Temple University 3MT Competition?
One or more eligible presenters from the CST 3MT Competition will be selected to participate in the University-level Competition.
