Chair's Message

This past year EES reached a new high in graduate student enrollment, including new PhD and postdoctoral students, fueled by the department's growing grant-funded research. At the same time, our undergraduate programs in geology and environmental science remain strong, with many students taking part in research and new programs such as our Environmental Professional Training Certificate.

Over the past year, our faculty and students have delved into the interface between human society and earth systems through hydrology, geochemistry, landscape change and the foodenergy-water nexus. We also investigated the fundamental natural processes in modern and ancient systems that shape our planet and others in the solar system. Currently, students and faculty are engaged in active research projects around the world, as well as a variety of projects in Philadelphia.

I thank our alumni and friends whose financial contributions have contributed to the unprecedented growth and success of the department. Please come and visit to see how we have grown.
