BIO-related Professional Science Master's options

The College of Science and Technology offers three biology-related options for professionals looking to earn a Professional Science Master’s degree. Developed by the Council of Graduate Schools and industry, the PSM is for individuals pursuing advanced scientific training and the skills highly valued by non-academic employers. 
 

Bioinformatics

Combines advanced programming skills with genomics and structural biology
 
With an advanced curriculum, Bioinformatics offers extensive skills in computer programming as well as deep knowledge in genomics and structural biology. A research internship in a biotech or pharmaceutical company allows for real-world skills and connections to key employers in the Philadelphia area. Learn more. 
 

Bioinnovation

Entrepreneurship for scientists, in partnership with Fox School of Business
 
Featuring a curriculum developed by the Fox School of Business and the College of Science and Technology, Bioinnovation offers student specialized knowledge in entrepreneurship and practical experience needed to pursue careers in pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, tech transfer and public health. Biotechnology

Real-world industry training matched with robust academics in biotech
 
Students work directly with research faculty, a pharmaceutical company or CRO mentors on real-world projects, gaining hands-on skills necessary to solve emerging problems. The program has a track record of successful student outcomes such as co-ops, full-time positions in big pharma or placement in MD/PhD programs. Learn more.

Forensic Chemistry

Gain the knowledge and experience in analytical methodologies to take on today toughest challenges

Students gain the managerial skills for a wide range of careers in the public and private sectors. The program includes core requirements in applied biopharmaceutics; data analysis; law, ethics, and policy; and toxicology. Many courses are conducted as hands-on training in a modular, forensic chemistry laboratory. Each student takes on an independent project to both generate new knowledge and to develop advanced skills, enabling graduates to succeed in the forensic chemistry field.  Learn more.

Scientific Writing

Develop expertise in writing related to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Students in the program work directly with faculty from the College of Science and Technology and the School of Media and Communications to obtain the skills necessary to meet the growing demand for individuals who are able to clearly and effectively communicate scientific information to a wide range of audiences. In addition to classroom- based training, students in the program will complete an internship in an approved setting, such as with a practicing scientist, a publishing company, a patent law office, pharmaceutical company or other relevant location.
