Celebrating the innovative research conducted by graduate and undergraduate students, the Department of Physics hosted its Inaugural Research Symposium on August 26 in the Science Education and Research Center.

“Our students are at the forefront of groundbreaking scientific research,” said Martha Constantinou, associate professor and vice chair, “supported by funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science.”

The symposium featured seven oral presentations and 21 poster presentations, showcasing the breadth and depth of the department's research in atomic, molecular and optical, condensed matter, and nuclear physics.

"Research is a cornerstone of the Physics Department, closely related to our commitment to mentoring both undergraduate and graduate students,” said Constantinou. “The primary goal of this symposium was to provide a platform for our students to present their summer research, engage in networking, and explore internship opportunities.”

They event sponsors were CAEN Technologies, which provides a complete range of high/low voltage power supply systems and front-end/data acquisition modules which meet IEEE standards for nuclear and particle physics, and Edmund Optics, a leading global optical solutions provider that has served a variety of markets including life sciences, biomedical, industrial inspection, semiconductor and defense since 1942.
