The Board of Directors of The Optical Society of America (OSA) has elected Temple University Professor of Physics A. Marjatta Lyyra a Fellow of the Society during their recent meeting in Washington, DC.        

Dr. Lyyra was recognized "for significant contributions and leadership in experimental research in all-optical triple resonance spectroscopy and its application to frequency domain control of quantum state singlet/triplet character and all-optical spin switching."

As an OSA Fellow, Dr. Lyyra joins a distinguished group of members who have served the Society and the optics and photonics community with distinction. In the supporting documentation for Dr. Lyyra's nomination, she was also lauded for her work in training and mentoring women in atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) Physics. Women are heavily underrepresented among physics PhDs. During her time at Temple University, Dr. Lyyra has worked with an equal number of male and female doctoral graduates, nine each.
