Featured Speaker: Sherry J. Gillespie, PhD '75 

After graduating with a doctorate in physics from Temple University, Sherry Gillespie launched her career in the semiconductor industry at IBM, working in the areas of computer chip reliability and fabrication processes for advanced semiconductor devices. She then moved to the Semiconductor Products Sector at Motorola, becoming Director of Materials Research and Strategic Technologies. 

While at Motorola, Gillespie initiated research partnerships with U.S. universities as well as partnerships in Japan, China and South America. She served on the boards of the Semiconductor Research Corporation and the Technology Strategy Committee of the Semiconductor Industry Association. She was also an industrial advisor for the NSF Science and Technology Center for Synthesis, Growth and Analysis of Electronic Materials at the University of Texas. She has authored or co-authored more 40 publications, holds a U.S. patent and earned Motorola's High Impact Technology Award and IBM's Technical Innovator Award.

In 2008, Gillespie was selected to be an IEEE-USA/AAAS Congressional Fellow, working on staff as a science advisor in the U.S. Senate in the office of Sen. Joe Lieberman. Her work there included drafting legislation about government acquisition of advanced microelectronics from commercial sources. She remained in Washington, D.C. as a technology management consultant on issues relating to science and public policy.
 

Student Speaker: Samuel Cook, BS '18 

Samuel Cook is graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor of science in mathematics and computer science, a certificate in data science and a minor in German. On campus, Cook is a peer tutor in the Computer & Information Sciences Department, a peer mentor and an ambassador for the Temple Honors Program and president of the Temple University German Society.

Most recently Cooke worked in Associate Professor Richard Souvenir's computer vision lab, investigating the structure of convolutional neural networks, which are used for image recognition. Previously, in the bioengineering lab of Professor Peter Lelkes, he researched an electrospinning robot for use in custom bandage generation. His most recent summer internship was with J.P. Morgan Chase in its Technology Analyst Program.

Originally from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Marple Newtown High School, Cook will move to Heidelberg, Germany after graduation to take a job as a Big Data Engineer for SAP. He plans to eventually attend graduate school and earn a PhD.
 

Alumni Speaker: Sina Adibi, BS '84, FOX '86

Sina Adibi, president of the CST Alumni Board, is currently a Sr. Technology Product and Services Executive and serves as the General Manager and a member of the Board of Directors of Artezio, a global information technology services and consulting company focused on helping its clients implement e-business solutions. He also serves as the Chief Information Officer and founder at Superior Media Solutions, a digital and print publishing technology services company, and the President at Practical CTO, an advisory and product development company in the healthcare and scientific information market.

Prior to these roles, Adibi was the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Systems Technology at ThomsonReuters Scientific & Healthcare. He is an active member in the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executives (GPSEG) and the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS).
