The David Zitarrelli Fund
Professor David Zitarelli - as a colleague, friend, teacher and mentor - inspired so many of us in the Department of Mathematics. To honor his legacy, the department established this scholarship in his name to support today's deserving undergraduate students.
David taught at Temple for 42 years before retiring in 2012. In 2001 he was honored with the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching and the title of Honors Professor of the Year (a selection made entirely by students). He earned Temple's Great Teacher Award in 2005 and authored or co-authored more than a half dozen textbooks, notably “A History of Mathematics in the United States and Canada,” published in two volumes by MAA Press (2019 and 2022), the second of which was unfinished when David passed away in December 2018 and was completed posthumously by Delia Dumbaugh and Stephen Kennedy.
David was admired and loved by so many of us, and made a meaningful impact on generations of students. Your gift will support talented mathematics students as they work to achieve their own lasting legacies.
