Research and Instructional Support Facility (RISF)

The Research and Instructional Support Facility (RISF) provides machining, technical design and consulting services to the College of Science and Technology and Temple University researchers. A student machine shop located adjacent to the main facility allows students to use basic shop tools to support their work after taking a required shop introduction and safety program.

  • Chemical Safety Information. Chemical Safety is responsible for providing guidance and support to the Universities students, faculty and staff concerning the recognition, evaluation and control of chemical hazards. The goal is to provide the safest work environment for all personnel and the surrounding community as well as minimizing risk to the environment and property.
  • Chemical Hygiene Program. The Chemical Hygiene Program addresses the hazards of chemicals that may be present in the laboratory and describes work practices, procedures, and controls which are in place to protect laboratory personnel from those hazards.
  • Chemical Inventory Management Program. All locations that store hazardous chemicals at Temple University and Temple University Health System are required to maintain a chemical inventory in Temple's online inventory database.
  • Chemical Waste Management Program. This program provides guidance and procedures for the safe handling and disposing of chemical waste.
  • EHRS Online Training. EHRS offers a wide variety of training courses to increase your knowledge, improve your ability to recognize and mitigate risk, and help maintain a safe work environment.
  • Safety Data Sheets. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) describe the physical and health hazards of chemicals or chemical-containing products and can be accessed in CEMS.

Student Advisors and Advocates

The Student Advisor and Advocate (SAA) is thoroughly familiar with course requirements, curricula and faculty within a College of Science and Technology (CST) department. SAAs also have information about career options for the department’s graduates.

SAAs hold regular office hours, and undergraduates can walk-in during office hours to receive advice on course load and resources available within the department. SAAs can also direct students to appropriate student academic and support resources. For long-term schedule planning, career planning and other serious advising matters, SAAs will refer students to CST main advising
