I’m a Medical Biotechnologist and I have obtained my PhD in Molecular Oncology and Endocrinology at the University of Naples Federico II; I serve as research scientist at the National Cancer Institute “Pascale Foundation” and I’m working on the identification of novel DNA repair proteins as a possible druggable targets for cancer therapy. During my PhD, I focused on novel treatments for thyroid cancer, principally for multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) and for the most aggressive medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) which are treated by using different kinds of inhibitors to target the RET receptor tyrosine kinase. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, I studied the role of RNA-binding proteins in DNA repair. In particular, I demonstrated the role of NONO protein in the regulation of the intra-S phase in response to UVC radiations favoring the ATR kinase activation through the correct loading of TopBP1. Moreover, I studied the post-transcriptional regulation of NONO mRNA, as a novel HUR client, in response to UV radiation supporting the essential role of NONO protein in the DNA damage response. Finally, I characterized the role of another RNA binding protein (AUF-1) in the regulation of the R-loop biogenesis to promote a correct DNA repair through Homologous Recombination.
