Talented students working with world-class researchers.

At the College of Science and Technology, real-world research projects are an essential part of the curriculum. Formerly known as the Undergraduate Research Program (URP), the CST-Research Scholars Program's goals are to get talented and motivated students into the laboratory with top Temple researchers and remove those obstacles that keep students from participating in advanced research projects as undergraduates.

CST-RSP projects have included testing an intelligent reasoning system, analyzing human tissue with laser electrospray mass spectrometry and studying the effects of ocean acidification on cold water coral. Today’s students need to have lab experience, especially if they are planning on going to medical or dental school. Increasingly, even entry-level positions require lab experience or ‘lab hands’. In such a competitive market—for jobs as well as for spots in highly competitive graduate programs—advanced research experience provides CST-RSP students with a distinct edge.

Gain lab skills and connections with experienced researchers.

CST-RSP students can work with Temple University faculty members on both Main Campus and the Health Sciences Campus to complete hands-on research in their particular field of interest. The program runs in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Eligible students can apply for the semester that best fits their schedule.

Throughout participation in the program, students build relationships with faculty, post-doctoral students and peers, connecting them to research, educational and career opportunities. Many CST-RSP participants have completed independent research projects which have led to presenting at National Conferences and co-authoring research papers with world-renowned scientists.

Why research? Why me?
