In Fall 2025, the Boni Lab launched a communications and social media initiative called #ProtectTheCure. The initiative was launched in collaboration with Impact Santé Afrique and Normal Life Pictures in the UK, and it aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting artemisinin-based antimalarial drugs in Africa as drug-resistance is beginning to spread in the eastern part of the continent.
The first #ProtectTheCure events were held on Dec 5 and Dec 9 in Accra, Ghana and Dakar, Senegal with participants sitting in for a film screening and discussing the challenges of communicating health messages across national and local health systems that are responsible for delivering antimalarial drugs to more than a billion people.
