Biology Application Instructions

​Application Requirements:

  • General GRE: required; send directly to Temple by ETS (Temple institution code 2906)
  • Transcripts.  Unofficial (scanned or photocopied) transcripts may be uploaded as part of the department application.  If you are accepted, official transcripts will be required before registration will be permitted.  Official transcripts should be mailed to:

  • Three letters of recommendation (PDF format, on official letterhead).  Have letter writers upload letters directly to the application.  Mailed copies are not necessary.  No cover page is necessary.
  • CV/Resume.  Please include your contact information.  Do not include your social security number or any other secure information.
  • Personal statement (1-2 pages, no smaller than 11 point font).  Describe your research interests and goals for graduate school, previous research experience, research areas of interest to you and the names of 1-3 Temple faculty with whom you would like to work.
  • Application fee.  $60 application fee, payable by credit card through the online Temple University system.
  • Additional requirements for international students:
    • TOEFL test results (unless your Bachelors degree was obtained in the United States).
      • At least 577 paper-based, 233 computer-based, or 90 internet-based
      • Other tests such as the IELTS (minimum score 6.5) or PTE (minimum score 53) may be substituted for the TOEFL

    • Upload unofficial copies of your transcript (which may include documents such as mark sheets, completion certificates, and diploma supplements) through the online application. Any offer of admission granted using unofficial transcripts/documents will not be finalized and future enrollment will be blocked until official paper transcripts/documents are received in a sealed envelope from the Office of the Registrar where the applicant attended school. Official transcripts can be mailed to:

Application Process:

The CST graduate application has two sections. Both sections must be completed by all applicants.

The first section of the application allow you to provide information on your background and academic history. At the end of this section you will be asked to pay the $60.00 application fee.

A second, required section of your application consists of supplementary materials (such as your transcript, personal statement, resume, and letters of reference). Documents can be uploaded anytime – either before or after you pay– by clicking Submit Required Items from the My Account page. You can also request that letters of reference be sent on your behalf via Submit Required Items.

You can continue an unfinished application by clicking Submit an Application from the My Account page.

Deadlines:

For full consideration, applications should be received by:

  • Fall: December 15; November 15 international. To be considered for a University Fellowship applicants should have an essentially complete application on file by January 5. 
  • Spring: October 15; August 1 international. 

Mantriculation in the fall is highly recommended. Late applications may be considered for admission.
