Application Requirements: 

  • General GRE: required; send directly to Temple by ETS (Temple institution code 2906)
  • Mathematics GRE: recommended
  • Transcripts.  Unofficial (scanned or photocopied) transcripts may be uploaded as part of the application.  If you are accepted, official transcripts will be required the first semester you are here.  
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Personal statement (1-2 pages, no smaller than 11 point font).  Describe your research interests and goals for graduate school, previous research experience, and Temple faculty/research areas of interest to you.
  • Application fee.  $60 application fee, payable by credit card through the online Temple University system. Students with a demonstrated financial need may apply for a fee waiver by emailing
  • Additional requirements for international students:
    • TOEFL test results (unless your last degree was from an English-language university).
      • At least 500 paper-based, or 79 internet-based
      • Other tests such as the IELTS (minimum score 6.5) or PTE (minimum score 53) may be substituted for the TOEFL
    • Upload unofficial copies of your transcript (which may include documents such as mark sheets, completion certificates, and diploma supplements) through the online application. If admitted, official transcripts are required the first semester you attend.

Application Process:

The CST graduate application has two sections. Both sections must be completed by all applicants.

The first section of the application allow you to provide information on your background and academic history. At the end of this section you will be asked to pay the $60.00 application fee.

A second, required section of your application consists of supplementary materials (such as your transcript, personal statement, resume, and letters of reference). Documents can be uploaded anytime – either before or after you pay– by clicking Submit Required Items from the My Account page. You can also request that letters of reference be sent on your behalf via Submit Required Items.

For full consideration, applications should be received by January 8 for Ph.D (January 1 for international Ph.D applicants) and February 15 for M.S. applicants . Applications received after these dates will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
