Mathematics with Teaching

Career options

Completion of the Mathematic with Teaching degree will prepare students for the same scientific and related careers as the mathematic BA program. In addition, students will also be prepared to take the Pennsylvania Department of Education Praxis exams, which will certify them to teach Mathematics in a secondary school classroom in Pennsylvania, and in states with reciprocal agreements with Pennsylvania. The pedagogy courses in this program are especially designed for science and mathematics majors, and emphasize skills in designing and delivering inquiry-based curricula, with extensive opportunities for practice teaching in Philadelphia School District classrooms.

After completing this program, students should

  • have the ability to process and evaluate effectively both theoretical and real-life quantitative data.
  • be able to communicate using oral, written, or electronic media, and have the skills and background knowledge needed to recognize, isolate, and solve mathematical problems.
  • be committed and open to continuous learning and new ideas, and be able to use them for professional and personal development
