Chemistry

PhD and MA in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry offers PhD and MA degrees in biochemistry, analytical, inorganic, organic and physical Chemistry.

A Chemical Physics program is offered jointly with the Department of Physics and joint programs with the schools of Business Administration and Public Administration are available. The department also is at the forefront of photonics through its interdisciplinary Center for Advanced Photonics Research.

After completing a program, students should:

  • know the basic principles of a chosen sub-discipline (i.e. organic, physical, biochemical, inorganic and analytical chemistry)
  • demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research in that area
  • communicate the results of their research through the preparation of articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals devoted to their sub-discipline
